Police seize $14,700 worth of drugs near Espanola

Both were charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking

ESPANOLA - On July 16, 2019, at approximately 8:30 a.m., officers from the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), with assistance from the OPP Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB), and the OPP Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), conducted a vehicle stop on Highway 6 in Baldwin Township, Ont.

Officers located and seized a quantity of suspected Hydromorphone. The street value of the drugs is estimated to be $14,700.

As a result of the investigation, Frederick Peltier, 59-years-old, from Wikwemikong First Nation, Ont., has been charged with:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - Hydromorphone, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA); and
  • Possession of a schedule I substance - Codeine, contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA.

Desmond Toulouse, 47-years-old, from Wikwemikong First Nation, Ontario, has been charged with:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - Hydromorphone, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA.

Both accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola, on Aug. 19, 2019.
