Police run down Hillside shoplifting suspect

Store manager reported a male left the store with numerous items in his possession that were not paid for
feet running stock

ELLIOT LAKE - On Dec. 19, 2017, at approximately 3:55 p.m. members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a theft call at a local retail store on Hillside Drive North in the City of Elliot Lake, Ontario.

The store manager reported a male leaving the store with numerous items in his possession that were not paid for. The male did not stop when directed to do so and a foot pursuit ensued.     

The male was located and arrested by police a short time later.

Jan Rene (Jr.) Wilen, 44 years of age, from Elliot Lake, Ontario was charged with:

  • Theft Under $5,000, contrary to section 334(b) of the Criminal Code (CC), and
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order (two counts), contrary to section 733.1(1) of the CC.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake, on Feb. 6, 2018.
