OPP seize suspected methamphetamine after responding to several noise complaints

Officers had attended the same Frobel Drive address several times for noise complaints, but the occupants refused to answer the door

ELLIOT LAKE - On May 2, 2020 at approximately 4 p.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to numerous noise complaint calls at a residence on Frobel Drive in the City of Elliot Lake.

The complainant reported very loud music being played at a residence on the street. Police had attended numerous times in the past couple days regarding the same thing. But every time, the homeowner refused to answer the door.

Once again, on this occasion police announced their presence and advised to turn the music down numerous times with still no response. Police gained entry and found two people inside with suspected methamphetamine and one person was wanted by police. They were subsequently arrested and the stereo, speakers and suspected methamphetamine were seized.

Brook Hyatt, 23 years of age from Elliot Lake, was charged with:
    •    Mischief - obstructs, interrupts or interferes with the lawful use, enjoyment, or operation of property, contrary to section 430(1)(c) of the Criminal Code (CC),
    •    Possession of a schedule I Substance - methamphetamine, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA).

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on Aug. 4, 2020.

Lawrence Boyd, 36 years of age, no fixed address, was charged with:
    •    Mischief - obstructs, interrupts or interferes with the lawful use, enjoyment, or operation of property, contrary to section 430(1)(c) of the Criminal Code (CC),
    •    Fail to comply with recognizance (three counts), contrary to section 145(3) of the CC,
    •    Fail to attend court, contrary to section 145(2)(b) of the CC.

The accused was scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Blind River on May 3, 2020.
