Elliot Lake OPP Community Safety Officer Phil Young is asking motorists to drive cautiously in areas where snow removal is taking place.

City works crews and private contractors have been working long hours to remove snow after record snowfalls last week. The work includes clearing areas of snow and cutting back snowbanks along city streets and intersections.

“The City of Elliot Lake road crews have been working steady in order to try to keep up with the snowfalls thus far,” Constable Young said in a press release issued Wednesday. “We stress to the public that they are doing the best they can.”

“The OPP would also like to remind motorists to slow down and please be patient. The road crews and sign persons are there for a reason. Safety is paramount. By getting frustrated and angry for waiting a couple extra minutes, then speeding off, puts yourself and others sharing the roadway at risk.”
