One charged after family dispute: OPP

Police say unwanted person was hiding in apartment lobby and was wanted in violation of a release order

On July 21, 2021, shortly after 2:00 a.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a family dispute at an apartment complex on Mississauga Avenue in the City of Elliot Lake.

Investigation determined the complainant wanted a person removed from the residence. Police located the unwanted person hiding in the apartment lobby who was in violation of a release order. 

As a result of the investigation, Trenton Richer, 24 years of age, from Elliot Lake was charged with:

  • Fail to comply with probation order, contrary to section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court, contrary to section 145(5)(a) of the CC (two counts)

The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Video Bail in Blind River on July 21, 2021 and was remanded into custody.
