More than $77,000 worth of drugs seized, Elliot Lake man charged

On Aug. 1, 2018, members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the East Algoma OPP Crime Unit and the East Algoma OPP Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) executed a search warrant at a residence on Hergott Avenue in the City of Elliot Lake, Ont.

During the search police located and seized over $2,500 in Canadian currency, a significant amount of suspected cannabis marijuana bud, suspected oxycodone pills, a jar of suspected hash oil, four bottles of methadone, suspected shatter, suspected THC gummicons, and other drug paraphernalia. The estimated street value of the seized drugs is over $77,000.

As a result of the investigation, Bradley Grier, 29 years of age from Elliot Lake, Ont. was charged with:
    •    Possession of a schedule I substance - opioid (two counts), contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA),
    •    Possession of a schedule II substance for the purpose of trafficking - over 3 kg, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA,
    •    Possession of a schedule II substance for the purpose of trafficking - under 3 kg (three counts), contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA, and
    •    Possession property obtained by crime under $5,000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC).

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake, Ont. on Sept. 1, 2018.
