Massey R.I.D.E. check leads to impaired driving charge

MASSEY - On Saturday, Aug. 25, 2018 at approximately 11 p.m., an officer from the Manitoulin-Espanola Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) checks at Imperial Street North in Massey, Ont.

Shortly after commencing the R.I.D.E. check, the officer stopped an approaching vehicle. An investigation revealed that the driver had been consuming alcoholic beverages.

As a result, Mathieu Savage, age 20, of Chelmsford, Ont. has been charged with:
    •    Driving with over 80 mg of alcohol in blood, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola, Ont. on Oct. 1, 2018.

Drivers need to remember that any amount of alcohol or drugs can impair one's ability to drive.
