Man charged in robbery, assault investigation

On Feb. 6, 2018, at approximately 3:15 p.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) uniform members and the OPP's East Algoma Crime Unit executed an arrest warrant at a residence on Bouck Road in the City of Elliot Lake, Ont. 

On Jan. 23, 2018, police responded to an assault related call on Beckett Boulevard. The complainant reported being assaulted by a known male while inside his apartment. The male then stole cash from the complainant and departed on foot.

Samuel McCleery, 28 years of age, of Elliot Lake, Ont. was charged with:

  • Assault causing bodily harm, contrary to section 267(b) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Robbery and wounding, contrary to section 344(1)(b) of the CC,
  • Failing to attend court, contrary to section 145(2) of the CC.

The accused was scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Blind River, Ont. on Feb. 7, 2018.
