Man charged after failing to appear for fingerprints

On Jan. 9, 2018, shortly after 12:30 p.m., a member from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment arrested a male under the strength of a warrant on Woodward Avenue in the Town of Blind River.

The warrant was issued on Jan. 4, 2018 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River where the male failed to appear in court that day and failed to appear for fingerprinting on Dec. 7, 2017.   

As a result of the investigation, Edward Martel, 54 years of age from Blind River, Ont. was charged with:

  • Fail to attend court, contrary to section 145(2)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC); and with
  • Fail to appear/comply with appearance notice, promise to appear or recognizance-identification of Criminals Act, contrary to section 145(5)(a) of the CC.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on Feb. 1, 2018.
