Man accused of driving scooter when he shouldn't have been

On Sept. 27, 2017, at approximately 6:45 p.m. members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on general patrol duties on Mississauga Avenue and Axmith Avenue in Elliot Lake.

Police stopped a male operator on a motorized scooter. Police were familiar with the male and knew he had a driver's license suspension.   

The male was subsequently arrested and the scooter was towed.

Wesley Bruce Maynes, 59 years of age, from Elliot Lake, was charged with:

  • driving while disqualified - court order, contrary to section 259(4) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • fail to comply with probation order, contrary to section 733.1(1) of the CC

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on Oct. 31, 2017.
