Male faces sexual assault, other charges in investigation of missing 15-year-old girl

On Jan. 11, 2019, members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were involved in an on-going investigation involving a missing 15-year-old girl, in the City of Elliot Lake, Ontario.

Police received information that the female was at a residence on Central Avenue with a 21-year-old male. Police attended the residence and located the male and missing female in a basement bedroom. 

While attempting to apprehend the female, the male became very angry and standoffish with police. After numerous warnings and attempts to reason with the male, he still continued his uncooperative and obstructive type behaviour. As a result, the male had to be arrested.

Afterwards, the 15-year-old girl female disclosed she was sexually assaulted by the 21-year-old male. Members from the East Algoma Crime Unit and North East Region Forensic Identification Services (FIS) were involved in the investigation.

As a result, the 21-year-old man from Elliot Lake, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Obstruct Peace Officer, contrary to section 129(a) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Assault with intent to resist arrest, contrary to section 270(1)(b) of the CC,
  • Sexual Assault on a Person Under 16 years of age, contrary to section 271 of the CC,
  • Sexual Interference, contrary to section 151 of the CC.

The accused person is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake, Ontario on March 5, 2019.
