Machete brandished during argument in Spanish: OPP

Police say an argument broke out that escalated to a pistol, crossbow and machete being brandished

SPANISH – On Sept. 8, 2020, at approximately 6:40 p.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a disturbance related call at a residence on Colonization Road in the town of Spanish.  

Investigation determined that an argument ensued between multiple people at numerous residences on Colonization Road. The arguing escalated when a pistol, crossbow and machete were brandished. Threats were made and an assault occurred.   

Police quickly attended the scene and arrested the accused people involved.   

Dustin Gordon, 28 years of age, of Spanish was charged with: 

  • Uttering threats - cause death or bodily harm, contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC),  
  • Assault with a weapon, contrary to section 267(a) of the CC,  
  • Handle firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition in a careless manner, contrary to section 86(1) of the CC  

Thomas Joncas, 64 years of age, of Spanish was charged with:  

  • Assault, contrary to section 266 of the CC,  
  • Causing a disturbance - non-occupant, contrary to section 175(1)(d) of the CC   

Martin Mackenzie, 32 years of age, of Spanish was charged with:  

  • Assault with a weapon, contrary to section 267(a) of the CC,  
  • Causing a disturbance - non-occupant, contrary to section 175(1)(d) of the CC     

All accused persons are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River, on Nov. 5, 2020.
