Local man accused of assaulting New Year's Eve party host

ELLIOT LAKE - On Jan. 1, 2019 at approximately 1:30 a.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to an assault at a residence on St. Laurent Place in the City Elliot Lake, Ont.

The complainant reported having a New Year's Eve celebration at the residence. A verbal argument ensued over the behaviour of an (allegedly) intoxicated male. The male got upset over this and (allegedly) assaulted the complainant. The male was subsequently arrested and charged.

Dawson Lalande, 19 years of age of Elliot Lake, Ont., was charged with:
    •    Assault, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code (CC)
    •    Fail to comply with probation order, contrary to section 733.1(1) of the CC

The accused was scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Blind River, Ont. on Jan. 1, 2019.
