Impaired charge laid during Blind River RIDE check

BLIND RIVER - On April 27, 2021, members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) set up a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program at the intersection of Cobden Street and Murray Street in the Town of Blind River.

 Shortly after 10:30 p.m., a vehicle approached the RIDE program area and as the officer was speaking to the driver, the officer determined the driver had consumed alcohol.

Nicholas O'Dair, 42 years of age, from Blind River, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on May 20, 2021. The driver was issued a 90-day administration driver's licence suspension (ADLS) and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

This incident marks the 9th driver charged under the criminal impaired driving laws in the East Algoma Detachment area in 2021.
