On Oct. 3, 2017, members from the East Algoma and Manitoulin (Espanola) Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the OPP Canine Unit were alerted to a black SUV with four occupants that had (allegedly) tried to pass a counterfeit US $100 bill at a general store in the Town of Webbwood and a gas station shortly thereafter in the Town of Massey. The vehicle left the area in a westbound direction on Highway 17.
Descriptions of the suspects and vehicle were provided East Algoma members and shortly after 12:30 p.m. the vehicle was located and stopped on Highway 108 south of the City of Elliot Lake.
Four occupants of the SUV were arrested and a search turned up several counterfeit US $100 bills on a female. Officers then searched the vehicle located a plastic bag containing over $4,500 of the counterfeit US $100 bills, a quantity of credit cards, female drivers licences, several cheques with company names and credit card receipts.
Officers found evidence of drug use and a small quantity of cannabis marijuana, and alcohol were also seized. The investigation is continuing with the assistance of East Algoma Crime Unit.
As a result of the investigation, Jacquelyne Dalzell, 28 years age from Milton, Ont. was charged with:
- possession counterfeit money-have in custody, contrary to section 450(b) of the criminal code (cc);
- identity theft-obtain or possess another person's identity information, contrary to section 402.2(1) of the cc;
- possession of a forged document with intent, contrary to section 368(1)(d) of the cc;
- uttering counterfeit money-utter (x2), contrary to section 452(a) of the cc;
- fraud under $5000 (x2), contrary to section 380(1)(b) of the cc; and with
- possession of a schedule ii substance-cannabis marijuana-under 30 grams, contrary to section 4(1) of the controlled drugs and substances act.
The accused was released on recognizance of bail and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on Oct. 30, 2017.
Kristen Hewitt, 25 years of age, from Mississauga, Ont. was charged with:
- possession counterfeit money-have in custody, contrary to section 450(b) of the criminal code (cc);
- identity theft-obtain or possess another person's identity information, contrary to section 402.2(1) of the cc;
- possession of a forged document with intent, contrary to section 368(1)(d) of the cc; and with
- possession of a credit card, contrary to section 342(1)(c) of the cc.
The accused was released on a Promise to Appear and Undertaking and is to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on December 5, 2017.
Khumane Agil, 38 years of age from Windsor, Ont., was charged with:
- possession counterfeit money-have in custody, contrary to section 450(b) of the criminal code (cc);
- identity theft-obtain or possess another person's identity information, contrary to section 402.2(1) of the cc; and with
- possession of a forged document with intent, contrary to section 368(1)(d) of the cc.
The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Video Bail in Blind River on Oct. 4, 2017 and was remanded into custody in Sault Ste Marie.
Teddy Fordjour, 26 years of age, from Etobicoke, Ont., was charged with:
- possession counterfeit money-have in custody, contrary to section 450(b) of the criminal code (cc);
- identity theft-obtain or possess another person's identity information, contrary to section 402.2(1) of the cc; and with
- possession of a forged document with intent, contrary to section 368(1)(d) of the cc.
The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice video bail in Blind River on Oct. 4, 2017 and was remanded into custody in Sault Ste. Marie.
