Family dispute results in assault charge

SERPENT RIVER FIRST NATION - On Sept. 25, 2020 shortly after 9 p.m., members of the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of an assault that took place at a residence on Village Road within the Territory of Serpent River First Nation.

Investigation determined a relative attended his nephew's residence uninvited. The nephew attempted to deny his uncle access to his residence when a physical altercation ensued. The nephew was [allegedly] punched in the back of the head.

As a result of the investigation, Adrian St-Denis, age 54 from Serpent River First Nation, was charged with:
    •    Assault, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code (CC); and with
    •    Fail to comply with probation order, contrary to section 733.1(1) of the CC.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on Nov. 5, 2020.
