Failing to stop at intersection leads to charges for Elliot Lake driver

OPP say the driver had no license, no insurance, and no license plates

On Oct. 12, 2020 at approximately 8:19 p.m., East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were on patrol on Hillside Drive South and Mississauga Avenue in Elliot Lake.

A southbound vehicle travelling on Hillside Drive failed to stop at the three-way stop intersection. Police subsequently stopped the vehicle and learned the driver had no license, no insurance on the vehicle and no license plates.

As a result the driver was arrested and charged and the vehicle was towed.

Kyle Harrison, 20 years of age from Elliot Lake, was charged with:
    •    Drive motor vehicle - no license, contrary to section 32(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA),
    •    Drive motor vehicle - no plates, contrary to section 7(1)(b)(i) of the HTA,
    •    Disobey stop sign - fail to stop, contrary to section 136(1)(a) of the HTA,
    •    Operate a motor vehicle without insurance, contrary to section 2(1)(a) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA).

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on Dec. 2, 2020.
