Execution of warrant by OPP leads to firearms charges

Suspect scheduled to appear June 2 in Sudbury bail court

The Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police, Manitoulin Crime Unit, Northeast Region Emergency Response Team, and OPP Tactical Response Team executed a search warrant on 542 Highway in Tehkummah Township led to charges and the seizure of three firearms with ammunition.

On May 31, shortly before 6 a.m., a search of the residence also turned up more than 14 grams of drugs suspected to be psilocybin mushroom with a value of approximately $70, a news release said.

As a result of the investigation, Michael Deforge, 55, of Tehkummah Township was charged with:

  • Failure to comply with undertaking - four counts
  • Careless storage of firearm - three counts
  • Possession of a schedule III substance
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm - three counts
  • Unauthorized possession of a weapon

The accused appeared before the Sudbury Bail Court and was remanded back into custody. He is scheduled to appear before the Sudbury Bail Court on June 2.
