Espanola person faces spousal assault, weapons charges

ESPANOLA – On May 13, 2020, officers from the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a domestic dispute in Espanola. As a result of the investigation officers seized firearms and ammunition. 

A 60-year-old from Espanola has been arrested and charged with:    

  • Assault-Spousal, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code (CC) (five counts), 
  • Uttering Threats- Cause Death or Bodily Harm-Spousal, contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the CC (two counts),  
  • Assault with a Weapon-Spousal, contrary to section 267(a)CC and;  
  • Pointing a Firearm, contrary to section 87 of the CC.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola at a later date.

The OPP will not be releasing the name of the accused in order to protect the identity of the victim.
