Espanola man faces impaired driving charges after RIDE stop

ESPANOLA - On Nov. 15, 2019, officers from the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) checks on Second Avenue in the Town of Espanola, Ont.

At approximately 11:33 p.m., a vehicle entered the spot check and the officers spoke with the driver. It was determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol.

As a result, Nathan Leclair, 37 years old, from Espanola, has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 Plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.

The accused was issued a 90-day automatic drivers licence suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. The driver is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on Dec. 16, 2019.
