Espanola man charged with impaired after attending drive thru window

BALDWIN TOWNSHIP - On Sunday, Aug. 4, 2019 at approximately 10:35 a.m., members of the Manitoulin OPP were called to a local business on Highway 17 in Baldwin Township after receiving a report of a possible impaired driver.

The investigation has since revealed that the lone occupant of a motor vehicle attended the drive-thru window to order food when the employees of the establishment believed that the driver had consumed alcohol. The vehicle was quickly located by police and a traffic stop was conducted. Police spoke with the driver and determined that he had consumed alcohol.

As a result of the investigation, Jason Brown, a 45-year-old from Espanola, Ont. was arrested and charged with operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.

The accused was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola, Ont. on Sept. 16, 2019.

The OPP reminds motorists that there is no safe amount of drug or alcohol consumption when driving. Anyone who suspects a driver that is driving while impaired is urged to call police by dialling 9-1-1 immediately.
