Espanola man charged after dispute with neighbour

Police say accused threatened neighbour, resisted arrest

On Jan. 10, 2022 at approximately 7:35 p.m. the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a neighbour dispute on Tudhope Street in Espanola.

The complainant reported being threatened by a neighbour. On Jan. 11, 2022 officers conducted a traffic stop on Barber Street. Once stopped, the driver of the vehicle fled on foot. They were located a short time later and subsequently arrested.      

Shawn Gear, 36-years-old from Espanola was charged with:

  • Uttering threats - Cause death or bodily harm (Three Counts), contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Resist peace officer, contrary to section 129(a) of the CC
  • Assault with intent to resist arrest, contrary to section 270(1)(b) of the CC

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on March 7, 2022.
