Espanola driver faces impaired charges

ESPANOLA - On Jan. 25, 2020 at approximately 11:37 p.m., officers from the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) checks on Lee Valley Road, Espanola, Ont.

A vehicle entered the spot check and the officers spoke with the driver. It was determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol.

As a result, Rodney Collins, 54 years old from Espanola, Ont. has been charged with:
    •    Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC), and
    •    Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) CC.

The accused was issued a 90-day administrative drivers licence suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. The driver is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola, Ont. on March 2, 2020.
