Elliot Lake woman charged following Highway 69 crash

UNINCORPORATED TERRITORY - On Jan. 9, 2019 shortly before 10 p.m., a member of the West Parry Sound Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision (MVC) on Highway 69 in Unincorporated Territory, Ont.

Investigation determined that vehicles were southbound following a snow plow when a southbound vehicle rear-ended another vehicle. Police attended and the officer spoke to the driver and determined that she had consumed alcohol.

As a result of the investigation Madison Jackson, a 22-year-old female from Elliot Lake, Ont. was charged with:
    •    Careless driving, contrary to section 130 of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA), and
    •    Operate a motor vehicle without insurance, contrary the Compulsory Automotive Insurance Act (CAIA).

The driver was also issued a three-day licence suspension.

Police would like to remind motorists, that planning ahead and being prepared will help keep road users safe. The irresponsible behaviour of one driver can negatively affect the lives of many.

The OPP reminds motorists that there is no safe amount of drug or alcohol consumption when driving. Anyone who suspects a driver that is driving while impaired is urged to call police by dialing 9-1-1 immediately.
