Elliot Lake resident charged with assaulting spouse at Blind River motel

Police say the accused was under conditions not to be near the victim prior to the incident

BLIND RIVER – On June 27, 2020, shortly after 3:30 a.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a domestic disturbance at a local motel in the Town of Blind River.  

Investigation determined the 36-year-old victim was assaulted by her spouse. A query of spouse revealed there was conditions not to have any communication or be within 50 metres of the victim.  

As a result of the investigation, a 48 year old from Elliot Lake, was charged with:  

  • Assault Causing Bodily Harm- Spousal, contrary to section 267(b) of the Criminal Code (CC); and with 
  • Two Counts of Failure to Comply with Release Order, contrary to section 145(5)(a) of the CC.   

The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Video Bail Court in Blind River on June 27, 2020 and was remanded into custody.
