Elliot Lake man facing multiple charges after police respond to disturbance call

On Feb. 24, 2018, at 5:05 p.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police responded to an unwanted person call on Washington Crescent in the City of Elliot Lake, Ont.

The complainant stated that an intoxicated male, who was known to them, was trying to enter the residence. (It is alleged that) he used a shovel and banged on the door, attempting to gain entry. Police arrived a short time later and the male suspect was located and subsequently arrested and charged.

On Feb. 25, 2018 the same male breached numerous release conditions he was bound by on Feb. 24, 2018. He was subsequently arrested and charged again.

Joseph Kearsley, 22 years of age of Elliot Lake, Ont., was charged with:

  • Assault, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Mischief - destroys or damages property, contrary to section 430(1)(a) of the CC,
  • Fail to comply with conditions of undertaking given by officer in charge, contrary to section 145(5.1) of the CC.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. on Feb. 26, 2018.
