Elliot Lake man arrested for breaching curfew

During a patrol on June 30, East Algoma OPP officers arrested a man for breaching the terms of his release.

Wesley Maynes of Elliot Lake had a curfew condition in place, and was found in the area of Hutchinson Avenue at 1:15 a.m.

He also allegedly had numerous break-in tools on him at the time of the arrest.

On June 30, 2022, at approximately 1:15 a.m. the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting general patrol duties on Hutchison Avenue in Elliot Lake when they observed a known person walking along the sidewalk who was breaching prior release conditions.

Police were familiar with the person and knew a curfew condition was in place. A subsequent arrest was made and additionally the person had numerous break-in tools in their possession. 

Wesley Maynes, 64 years-old, of Elliot Lake was charged with fail to comply with undertaking (two counts), contrary to section 145(4)(a) of the Criminal Code.

The accused was scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Blind River on June 30, 2022.
