Driver pulled over for speeding, gives false name

BLIND RIVER - On Feb. 14, 2018, members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment were on patrol duties on Causley Street in the Town of Blind River.

Shortly after 9 p.m. police observed an eastbound vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed and a traffic stop was initiated on Causley Street. 

The male driver could not produce a valid driver's licence and gave a false name to the officer. While being searched a small amount of suspected cannabis marijuana was located on his person.

As a result of the investigation, Charles Ambeault, 36 years of age from Sault Ste Marie, Ontario was charged with:

  • Obstruct Peace Officer, contrary to section 129(a) of the Criminal Code (CC);
  • Personation with Intent, contrary to section 403(1)(d) of the CC;
  • Possession of a Schedule II Substance Under 30 grams, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;
  • Driving While Under Suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA); and with
  • Speeding, contrary to section 128 of the HTA.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on Mar. 3, 2018.
