Driver charged with impaired after car hits pickup truck, light post

Police say the Elliot Lake man had open alcohol inside the vehicle

On Nov. 8 2019 at 8:27 p.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police members were called to a motor vehicle crash on in Pearson Drive in the City of Elliot Lake, Ont. 

A small car collided with a pickup truck. The car then continued onward and struck a light post, breaking the post at the base. The car came to rest on a residential front lawn. Upon police arrival, both drivers were spoken to. When police spoke to the male driver of the small car, a strong odour of alcoholic beverage was detected emanating from his breath. There was also open alcohol inside the vehicle. He did not sustain any injuries. The male driver was arrested, driver's license suspended, and the vehicle was towed and impounded.

Lee Ogden, 28 years of age, from Elliot Lake, Ont. was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (B.A.C.)(80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC,
  • Possess more than one license, contrary to section 35(1)(e) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA),
  • Novice driver - B.A.C. above zero, contrary to section 44.1(3) of the HTA,
  • Drive motor vehicle with liquor readily available, contrary to section 32(1) of the Liquor License Act (LLA).

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake, Ont. on Dec. 3, 2019.
