MISSISSAUGA FIRST NATION – On Jan. 29, 2021, a member from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was on patrol duties on Highway 17 within the Territory of Mississauga First Nation.

Shortly after 1 p.m., the officer observed a vehicle on Village Road and initiated a traffic stop to confirm the insurance status of the vehicle. The driver couldn't provide proof of insurance and for that reason the vehicle was subsequently towed.

As a result of the investigation, Lyle Cada, 31 years of age from Mississauga First Nation, was charged with:

  • Owner operate motor vehicle on a highway – no insurance, contrary to section  2(1)(a) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on April 27, 2021.
