Driver charged after being reported for erratic driving... twice in one day

On Nov. 26, 2017, the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) members were on regular patrol duties on Highway 17 in the East Algoma area.

At approximately 10:23 a.m., police received a traffic complaint of a vehicle travelling east bound on Highway 17 close to Bruce Mines, Ont., driving at a high rate of speed and in a careless manner. A short time later police located the vehicle and the driver was charged.

The same vehicle was later stopped again after police received additional traffic complaints for speeding erratic driving. This resulted in the driver being charged again and the vehicle was towed and impounded.      

Vishal Singh Khehra, 21 years of age of Orillia, Ont., was charged with:

  • Race a motor vehicle - stunt, contrary to section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA),
  • Speeding 1- 49 km/h over the posted limit, contrary to section 128 of the HTA, and
  • Fail to have insurance card, contrary to section 3(1) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA).

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on Jan. 17, 2018.
