Driver and passenger both face charges after traffic stop

Manitoulin OPP charged the driver with driving with a suspended license and the passenger was charged with obstruction, fail to comply with orders and drug offences

NAIRN TWP, ON - On May 2, 2020 at approximately 7:30 a.m., officers from the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on general patrol on Highway 17, Nairn Township and conducted a traffic stop of a motor vehicle. 

As a result of the investigation, the driver, a 30-year-old person from Spanish, was arrested and charged with driving while under suspension contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on July 9, 2020.

The passenger, Jimi Carrine, 40-years-old, also of Spanish, was charged with the following:

  • Obstruct Peace Officer, contrary to section 129(a) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Failure to Comply With Release Order - other than to attend court, contrary to section 145(5)(a) of the CC, and
  • Possession of a Schedule ll Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)

The accused was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on July 6, 2020.
