Domestic dispute results in multiple charges

On Aug. 31, 2019, at 12:35 a.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police responded to a domestic dispute at a residence on Hutchison Avenue in the City of Elliot Lake, Ontario. 

Police learned that an argument ensued between a male and female at their residence. Investigation revealed that the male had assaulted his wife and daughter. In addition, there was damage to property inside the house and firearms stored unsafely. 

The 40-year-old male from Elliot Lake, Ontario was arrested and charged with:

  • Assault - spousal, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Assault, contrary to section 266 of the CC,
  • Mischief - destroys or damages property, contrary to section 430(1)(a) of the CC,
  • Careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition, contrary to section 86(1) of the CC.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake, Ontario on Oct. 29, 2019. The OPP will not be releasing the name in order to protect the identity of the victims.
