Domestic dispute call yields illegal firearm charges

ESPANOLA - On Monday, Jan. 21, 2019 at approximately 10 a.m., officers from the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to a domestic dispute in Baldwin Township, Ont.

The investigation revealed that a male had assaulted his female partner. As a result, a 58-year-old male, from Baldwin Township, Ont. has been charged with:

  • Assault, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code (CC), and
  • Careless use of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition, contrary to section 86(1) of the CC.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola, Ont. on March 4, 2019.
