The East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police today kicked off Ontario's annual Crime Prevention Week, which runs from Nov. 4 to 10, 2018. The week-long promotion of crime prevention is supported by the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP), the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, and all police services across Ontario.

"Crime prevention works. When police work with their communities to stop crime in its tracks, we all win," states Inspector Tyler Sturgeon, East Algoma OPP Detachment commander. "We are proud that Ontario communities are among the safest in the world. But community safety and well-being takes hard work and collaboration. That's why our service is proud to partner with government, community leaders, young people, and businesses to prevent crime throughout our communities."

This week, the OPP will be working with government, community groups, and social services providers to promote crime prevention as a shared responsibility in our community. Crime prevention: 'Help us help you.'

Locally, on Nov. 6, 2018, at 1 p.m., the East Algoma OPP will have a presentation at the Renaissance Centre in Elliot Lake. Frauds and scams, internet/social media safety, and Safeguard Ontario will be some of the topics discussed.
