Police find break and enter suspect inside a residence that wasn't his

On Feb. 7, 2018 at approximately 7:25 a.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a break and enter call on Hergott Avenue in the City of Elliot Lake.

The complainant reported seeing a male enter a house through the side door. The complainant knew the male was not the home owner and therefore notified police. Police attended and located the male suspect inside the residence who was subsequently arrested.

Wesley Maynes, 59 years of age, of Elliot Lake, Ont. was charged with:

  • Break, enter a dwelling house with intent to commit indictable offence, contrary to section 348(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Theft under $5,000, contrary to section 334(b) of the CC,
  • Possession of break In instruments, contrary to section 351(1) of the CC,
  • Fail to comply with probation order (three counts), contrary to section 733.1(1) of the CC.

The accused was scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail court in Blind River, Ont. on Feb. 7, 2018.
