SPANISH - On March 18, 2018, shortly after 10 a.m., members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to call where a female had ended a relationship with her boyfriend a week prior and her mother wanted police to assist her daughter in retrieving her personal belongings from a resident on Highway 17 in the Town of Spanish.

Investigation determined between October 2017 and March 11, 2018, the 21-year-old female had (allegedly) been physically assaulted on numerous occasions and that her ex-boyfriend had destroyed two of her electronic devices.

Police determined the male had three firearms in the residence. Police attended the residence and seized three unsecured firearms that were located in a closet. A firearms query revealed the male wasn't in ownership of a possession acquisition licence.

  • Careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition, contrary to section 86(1) of the CC.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on April 5, 2018.
