Cop spots vehicle with no plates, Blind River driver charged

On Sunday, April 26, 2020, a member from the Mississauga First Police was on patrol duties on Village Road within the Territory of Mississauga First Nation.  

At approximately 12:15 p.m., the officer observed a vehicle with no plates and initiated a traffic stop.   

As a result of the investigation, the driver Donavan Meloche, 20 years of age from Blind River was charged with:  

  • Two counts of driving while under suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA), 
  • Owner operate motor vehicle on a highway - no insurance, contrary to section 2(1)(a)(i) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act,  
  • Drive motor vehicle - no plates, contrary to section 7(1)(b)(i) of the HTA, and with  
  • Enter premises when prohibited, contrary to section 2(1)(a)(i) of the Trespass to Property Act.    

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on July 15, 2020.   

The 23-year-old passenger from Elliot Lake was issued a provincial offence notice and charged with:

  • Enter premises when prohibited, contrary to section 2(1)(a)(i) of the Trespass to Property Act.
