Bank customer charged with assault in Blind River

Police say the Guelph woman threw a bottle of hand sanitizer and struck the bank manager

BLIND RIVER - On June 12, 2020 at approximately 11:30 a.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an assault that had taken place at a local bank on Causley Street in the Town of Blind River.

Investigation determined an angry bank client [allegedly] emptied a bottle of hand sanitizer and threw the empty bottle striking the manager. The client then left in a vehicle in a westbound direction. A short time later, OPP located the vehicle at a local gas bar on the territory of Mississauga First Nation and arrested the bank client.

As a result of the investigation, Sarah Panaccio-Essagian, age 24 from Guelph, was charged with assault, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on Aug. 6, 2020.
