BLIND RIVER - On Dec. 27, 2018 shortly after 2:30 a.m., members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a sexual assault that had occurred earlier that morning at a residence in the Town of Blind River.

The investigation determined that a male was visiting a friend who had other friends over and began to indulge in alcoholic beverages. The male became intoxicated and decided to stay behind to sleep it off as the others went out to a Boxing Day venue.

In the early hours of Dec. 27, 2018 while sleeping off the alcohol, the male was sexually assaulted by another male unknown to him.

As a result of the investigation, a 26-year-old male from Blind River, Ontario, was arrested on Jan. 15, 2019 by members of the East Algoma Crime Unit and charged with: Sexual Assault, contrary to section 271 of the Criminal Code.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on March 7, 2019.
