$634K in drugs seized during Sudbury bust

Two charged after search warrants locate suspected methamphetamine, hydromorphone, cocaine and psilocybin

Two Sudbury residents face numerous drug charges after police searched two separate homes on March 17 and seized $634,000 in drugs.

Officers with the Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB) and the Community Street Crime Unit of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), along with the Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS) Integrated Crime Section, Drug Enforcement Unit and Canine Unit, executed search warrants, which led to the seizure of three firearms with ammunition, prohibited devices, vehicles, drug paraphernalia, Canadian currency, surveillance equipment and drugs suspected to be cannabis, methamphetamine pills, hydromorphone pills, cocaine and psilocybin. The value of the drugs seized is believed to be about $634,000.

A 35-year-old Sudburian is charged with:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine , contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drug and Substance Act (CDSA);
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - methamphetamine, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA;
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - other drugs, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA;
  • Possession of a schedule III substance for the purpose of trafficking, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA;
  • Possession of a schedule I substance - opioid (other than heroin), contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA;
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000 - in Canada, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC);
  • Possession for the purpose of distributing, contrary to section 9(2) of the Cannabis Act (CA); and
  • -Unauthorized possession of weapon, contrary to section 91(2) of the CC.

The accused was held in custody pending bail and appeared in the Ontario Court of Justice on March 18.

A 28-year-old Sudburian is charged with:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - methamphetamine  contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA;
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA;
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - other drugs, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA;
  • Possession of a schedule III substance for the purpose of trafficking, Contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA;
  • Possession of a schedule I substance - opioid (other than heroin), contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA;
  • Possession property obtained by crime Over $5,000 - in Canada, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC;
  • Possession for the purpose of distributing, contrary to section 9(2) of the CA; and
  • Unauthorized possession of weapon, contrary to section 92(2) of the CC.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on May 5.
