33-year-old faces serious charges on Manitoulin Island

Suspect picked up on outstanding warrant faces assault, theft and possession of property obtained by crime charges

ESPANOLA, ON - On April 28, 2020, at approximately 12:59 a.m., officers from the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received information about a person who was wanted on outstanding warrants from the Espanola area.

As a result of the investigation, Jasimine Shawanda, 33-years-of age from Wikwemikong First Nation was arrested on the outstanding warrants for the charges of:

  • Assault, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Theft under $5,000, contrary to section 334(b) of the CC,
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 - in Canada, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC, and
  • Fail to Attend Court, contrary to section 145(2)(b) of the CC.

The accused was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on Aug. 10, 2020.
