18-year-old accused of being 'assaultive to officers'

She is charged with uttering threats, assault, mischief and escape lawful custody

SERPENT RIVER FIRST NATION - On June 29, 2019, members of the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were investigating a disturb the peace incident in Spanish, Ont. While investigating the incident, one person became assaultive to officers. 

As a result of the police investigation, Brooklyn Mercieca, an 18-year-old person from Blind River, Ont., was arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • Uttering threats - cause death or bodily harm (three counts), contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code; and
  • Assault - peace officer (three counts), contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code; and
  • Mischief - destroys or damages property, contrary to section 430(1)(a) of the Criminal Code; and
  • Escape lawful custody, contrary to section 145(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.

The accused has been released on a promise to appear with conditions and is scheduled to attend court on Sept. 26, 2019, in the Town of Blind River, Ont.
