Police trying to identify driver killed when car hit tree and burned in Oshawa

TORONTO — Police east of Toronto are trying to identify a driver who was killed when his car struck a tree and caught fire.

Durham Regional Police say it appears the car lost control, entered a ditch and struck a tree at a high rate of speed in Oshawa, Ont.

Officers found the car against the tree and fully engulfed in flames early Sunday morning.

Police say the car's lone occupant and driver was still inside.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are asking for witnesses or anyone with information on the crash to come forward.
