September 15-1944-February 14-2020

Hughene was a passionate teacher and mentor to her students at WC Eaket in Blind River for over 25 years. Her ministry as an educator was her proudest accomplishment. In retirement she was always so pleased to reconnect with former students. Hughene also loved her community of Blind River where she resided for most of her life. She was a founding member of the Rotary club and believed in the value of its programs which helped those in need both locally, and internationally. She was a great cook and entertainer. She loved to travel and saw many countries over her lifetime. She lived with appreciation and zeal. Her life was rich and full, she was kind and generous. Hughene cherished being with family and friends. She was a loving wife to Christian Heymich and was a dear Stepmother to Christian, Bianca, Ann Cathrin, Clarissa and Marie-Louise. Hughene was so important to her family.  She was a supportive and caring sister to brother Lauchlin Mac Donald (Yellowknife,NWT) and sister Edith MacDonald(Blind River). She did her best to be there for them through the good times and the bad. She was the best Aunt. She made her nieces and nephews a priority in her life. She was present at all special occasions and made efforts to connect and be a positive influence in each of their lives. Stephanie Manarin (Larcher- husband John), Andrea Townshend (Larcher- husband Keith) and David Larcher, Hannah, Brandon, Sam, Kate, Ruby and Elaina will miss their Aunt so much.  Hughene was a beloved daughter to Samuel and Katherine MacDonald of Cape Breton (predeceased). Hughene was blessed with lifelong friendships and Susie Eveleigh, Lois Jones and Margaret McDonald will miss her laughter and companionship.  A celebration of life and a gathering of her friends and family will take place at a later date. Hughene will forever be our special Valentine.Rest in Peace Aunt. Thank you for the wonderful care from Dr. Mary Shamas, Dr. Spencer and all the nurses and PSW’s at the St. Joseph Manor who cared for Hughene. Memorial contributions to the Cancer Society (Toll-free: 1-888-939-3333) would be appreciated by the family.
