Surrounded by her childrenMum passed away peacefullyat St. Gabriel’s Villa on October 25, 2019.

Beloved wife of Robert James Ludgate predeceased 1984. Loving mother of Ian (Brenda), Brian (Carolyn) and Janet Wheatley (Graham). Cherished Nana of Jessica (Matthew), Sarah, Andrew, Mackenzie (April), Kevin (Carrie-Lynn), David (Jessica), James, David (Vanessa) and great grandchildren Robert, Ian, William, Rosalyn, Clementine, Claire, Gemma, Phoenix and Maverick. Dear daughter of Fred and Gertrude (Aitcheson) Daubney both predeceased. Dear sister of Helen Siminovitch and Peter Daubney both predeceased. She will be missed by her nieces, nephews and many friends. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Gabriel’s Villa for their care and support.

Mum was born and raised in Ottawa. Following graduation in 1944 from Lisgar Collegiate Institute, she trained at Kingston General Hospital where she became a Registered Nurse. While in Kingston she met her future husband Robert (Bob) James Ludgate. They were married in 1949 and moved to Levack where Bob, a graduate in mining engineering from Queen’s University, started a long career at INCO. In addition to staying at home to raise the family Mumworkedpart time at the former Sudbury Algoma Sanitorium and the former Memorial Hospital.

Mum was musical,and successfully obtained her grade 8 designation in pianofrom the Royal Conservatory of music in Toronto. She enjoyed playing the piano for many years and the family looked forward participating in singalongs particularly at Christmas. Mum also enjoyed listening to classical music and attending the Sudbury Symphony. Mum was known for having a sweet tooth and particularly enjoyed having a bowl of scotch mints nearby.

Mum was also artistic and enjoyed painting. Many of her creations adorn the walls of homes of her children and grandchildren. She also participated in the artistic program at St. Gabriel’s and contributed paintings to the annual Fall Fairs. While at St. Gabriel’s Mum participated in many of the activitiesand particularly enjoyed bingo.

Mum always enjoyed company and looked forward to visits and phone calls from herfamily.We’ll all miss Mum.
