LakingMuriel

Born March 4, 1930, she passed away peacefully at Huron Lodge in Elliot Lake on December 19, 2017 at the age of 87. Predeceased by her parents William & Viola (Bice) Laking  and by her brother William “Bill” Laking. She is survived by her sister-in-law Isabel Laking and nephew Ronnie Laking, both of Elliot Lake, niece Myrna Kretzschmar (Ralph) of Parksville, B.C. and many grandnieces and grandnephews. Muriel was born in her parent’s community of Kearney, ON and was raised in Sudbury where her father worked in the mining sector. During her teenage years, she was active in the Sudbury Canoe Club. Upon completion of her education, she served in the Military for a number of years, with many happy memories of the places she had been and friends she made. Following her retirement from the Military, she worked as an X-Ray technician in the Sudbury Hospital and then as Postmaster in her hometown community of Kearney, ON. She also resided in Huntsville and from there chose to retire in Elliot Lake. She was a parishioner at the Holy Trinity United Church and was active in her community as a hospital volunteer. She happily made Huron Lodge her home for her last few years. Muriel was a good friend to many, ready to see the bright side of life and always ready with a joke in all the circumstances of life. As per her wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating Muriel’s life will be held on Tuesday January 9, 2018 at 11 am from Holy Trinity United Church, officiated by Jim Graham. Memorial contributions to the Huron Lodge or the Holy Trinity United Church would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Elliot Lake Funeral Chapel & Cremation Centre (36 Ontario Ave).

Special thanks to all the staff at Huron Lodge for the care and compassion provided to Muriel over the years.
