World Teacher Day celebrated in style at Our Lady of Lourdes (3 photos)

Students expressed their gratitude to their teachers

Tuesday marks World Teacher Day which is a day set aside annually to honour teachers, and the work they do.

Students in Elliot Lake and area celebrated their teachers on Oct. 5.

That acknowledgement is important now with the extra workload teachers and their students had to endure through distance learning during the pandemic.

“Teachers play such an integral role in student success. It is remarkable how the teachers have committed themselves to the needs of their students, ensuring their safety, monitoring their academic progress, providing them comfort and trust,” said Principal Stéphane, prévost of Our Lady of Lourdes French Immersion Catholic School.

“It is truly inspiring to see how they work with the many hats they wear. Today on World Teachers Day, we recognize the work and devotion our teachers put in everyday for their students.”

Phoenix, who is a new student at Lourdes this year, said, “Thank you Mr. Ucci for making me feel welcome."

“Thank you to Mr. Clark for making me do something,”  a student named Laura said of her teacher.

French teacher, Madame Tellier, was also thanked by a number of her students who appreciated her French lessons.

Liam was very thankful for Madame Frolick. “She lets me have my own cubby. She also helps me with my work.”

“Mrs. Essex is really nice,” said Emma. “Thank you for letting us use your drum today and for the fun things that you do with us,”

A similar sentiment was echoed by Logan about his French teacher, Mr. Carnaroli. "Thank you for teaching our class.”

Davin wanted to share his thoughts about Mr. Chi. “Everything about him is awesome,” he said. “Thank you for being awesome and thank you for being a great teacher.”

“The impact that a teacher has on a child is incredibly remarkable," said Lourdes vice principal, Nadia Zanatta. "Hearing the sincere appreciation from the students was so special. Our teachers always go above and beyond with their innovation, creativity, and passion for the job - it is so evident. I am truly grateful to work alongside this amazing group of professionals."

Blind River mayor, Sally Hagman, also sent greetings to teachers including Coun. Jennifer Posteraro who is a teacher.

“On behalf of council, we are reaching out to all teachers. A heartfelt thank you for providing guidance and education to our students. Your time, energy and commitment does not go unnoticed. We appreciate you and all that you do.”
