Wikwemikong man in stable condition after shooting

An 18- and a 20-year-old male are charged with attempted murder and various weapons charges

A man is recovering in hospital from a gunshot wound after being shot in the abdomen during an altercation inside a residence in the Hills Trail area of the Wiikwemikoong Unceded Territory, Saturday night.

Police arrived at the scene at approximately 11 p.m. after reports of shots fired, where they found one male victim in need of medical attention from a single suspected gunshot wound. The victim was subsequently transported to hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The victim is currently in stable condition.

Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service Crime Unit and Detachment Investigators in cooperation with Ontario Provincial Police Specialized Sections of the Emergency Response Team, Canine and Crime Unit, worked together in response to this major investigation. As a result, two males, aged 18 and 20 have been charged with attempted murder and various weapons charges and will be in Wiikwemikoong Bail Court on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018.
