Wi-Fi in the City of Elliot Lake has just been put in place.

The city has just announced it is offering free Wi-Fi hot spots at various locations throughout the community. New signs are being installed where free Wi-Fi signal can be secured, either outdoors or within municipal buildings

It's a free service courtesy of the City of Elliot Lake’s IT department in partnership with Vianet. Users will detect “Elliot Lake Hotspot WiFi” network, scroll down the page and accept standard terms to be connected to the free service.

The City says that Wi-Fi signal strength is not guaranteed and will be monitored against abuse. It says it is not intended to replace traditional internet providers but rather add a complimentary service to assist residents and visitors when enjoying municipal facilities or parks.

The list of hot spots include City Hall, Miners’ Memorial Park, Spine and Spruce Beach, Centennial Arena, WH Collins Hall, Parsons Park, Westview Trailer Park, Fire Tower Lookout, Westview Park, Municipal Airport, and Ruben Yli-Juuti Municipal Pool.

In the spring of 2020, the Elliot Lake Public Boat Launch and Fishing Pier will also be included in the free service.
